Gateway to Saratoga from San Jose, CA

Your Saratoga Gateway

Preston Wynne is located in the heart of Saratoga Village, a small historic town established in the mid 1800s. In the late 19th century, Saratoga (named after Saratoga, New York) was a spa town, featuring grand hot springs hotels where residents of San Francisco would come in the summertime to “take the waters.”  Today, the spa tradition continues at Preston Wynne. With our wonderful and extensive menu, it’s possible to pass an entire day at the spa.

The Inn at Saratoga

If you’re planning an overnight getaway, The Inn at Saratoga is a small, discreet hotel with oversized rooms that overlook leafy Saratoga Creek and hidden Wildwood Park. An evening wine and cheese Manager’s Reception and Continental Breakfast is included in the room rate. The shady creek side terrace is the perfect place to unwind to the sound of the creek and birdsong, under towering sycamores and rustling alders.

On a space available basis, the Inn often provides Preston Wynne guests with a preferred rate. Please be sure to mention our name. Reservations: 408 867-5020.

Wine Touring

Wine Spectator has called the Santa Cruz Mountain region “the most underappreciated appellation in the world.” Saratoga Village is the gateway to the Santa Cruz Mountains winegrowing appellation and an epicure’s dream, as this small downtown is filled with excellent restaurants. Its vineyards are often small treasures, with finds including fabulous Pinot Noirs, that thrive in the area’s warm days and fog-cooled nights, as well as elegant and expressive Chardonnays.

Explore these and other wines at Saratoga’s Uncorked wine bar. Also in the Village is the Cinnabar Winery tasting room.

For those whose touring takes them to the “other side of the hill,” stylish Vino Cruz wine bar in downtown Santa Cruz features strictly Santa Cruz Mountain wines: www.vinocruz.com.

Nearby, local favorites Clos LaChance Winery and Fleming Jenkins Vineyards and Winery are featured at Backyard Wineries at 45 W. Main Street in Los Gatos: www.flemingjenkinswinery.com

To view a listing of Santa Cruz Mountain wineries, go to www.scmwa.com/wineries.htm
Their popular Passport Weekends enable you to taste wines from wineries that do not normally offer public tasting rooms.

Historic Hakone Gardens

Historic Hakone Gardens, one of the most authentic Japanese gardens in the US, is open to the public. Its wisteria pergola, azalea gardens, koi ponds, arbors and Moon Viewing House provide a beautiful setting for a stroll or quiet meditation.

The Mountain Winery

The Mountain Winery is the former Paul Masson winery, now a stunning music and event venue perched high on a ridge overlooking the Silicon Valley. The outdoor performance space features the magnificent stone façade of the former winery as its backdrop and attracts an impressive array of artists. If the weather obliges, it’s possible to see San Francisco from the restaurant terrace while you enjoy a pre-concert dinner. You can also picnic on the ridge top. This is summertime “must do” for nearly everyone in the area. To view the season’s concert schedule, visit www.mountainwinery.com

Fabulous Saratoga Wedding Venues

The Mountain Winery is also one of the Bay Area’s most dramatic and sought-after wedding venues. Next to Saratoga, in Monte Sereno, the gorgeous estate Villa Montalvo, with its neoclassical architecture and sweeping green lawns, is tops for sheer romance. Hakone Gardens is very popular for intimate weddings. The Saratoga Women’s Club, a rare Julia Morgan building at the entrance to Saratoga Village, hosts many weddings and events as well. (Morgan was the architect of Hearst Castle and one of the icons of the Craftsman era.)
